Candlemas 2024 we pulled the jewelry drawers and the smalls boxes onto the stock desk: Carence silver, a Frost brooch, a handful of stickpins that always migrate to the wrong tray. Midwinter is a good time for that work. The shop is quieter, and the light on German silver is less harsh than in July.
The inventory list lives on a laptop that also talks to the photo folders. When that machine cannot see the local network, a dealer is left counting pins by hand and hoping last season's notes are still true. We have learned to treat the router page as part of the desk kit, the way a patina rag is part of the bench kit.
